Thus,we have applied low-temperature thermochronological methods to 40 samples from western Dronning Maud Land. This has resulted in 34 new apatite fission track ages, ranging fromc.
Contemporaneous to the rifting, considerable amounts of continental flood basalts, associated with the Karoo mantle plume, were emplaced at c. The basalts are still widespread in South Africa, making up elevated topography, but are only preserved as smaller remnants in western Dronning Maud Land.
By investigating the paleo-thermal effect of the basalts, we aim to constrain the extent and original thickness, as well as the subsequent erosion history of the Jurassic continental flood basalts.
The greatest basaltic thicknesses are recorded in Heimefrontfjella and H. 2) Late Paleogene cooling is attributed to the transition from green house to icehouse conditions and ice-sheet initiation at the Eocene-Oligocene boundary.
Post-Jurassic denudation of at least 2 km in some places is suggested....
The newly derived zircon fission track (ZFT) ages combined with published apatite fission track (AFT), 40Ar–39Ar ages from the Almora–Dadeldhura klippe and Ramgarh thrust sheet to quantify the temporal variation in cooling ages and exhumation rates.
Using 1-D numerical modelling approach, we calculate the transient exhumation rates with respect to different time intervals. The major challenges of automatic track counting are distinguishing tracks and material defects, identifying small tracks and defects of similar size, and detecting overlapping tracks. Here we address the latter issue using WUSEM, an...New ZFT cooling ages along ~50-kmlong orogeny perpendicular transect across the Almoraklippe range between 13.4 ± 0.6 and 21.4 ± 0.9 Ma.Published AFT ages and 40Ar–39Ar ages from the Almora–Dadeldhura klippe range 3.7 ± 0.8–13.2 ± 2.7 and 18.20–25.69 Ma, respectively.Sediment from the Kunlun reached the foreland basin between 14 and 11 Ma.
